Hit the ground running!
Speaking to over 60 of the region’s top business leaders at a seminar in Southampton, Lee Peck said that it was essential that they prepared for the upturn now – or run the risk of losing their commercial advantage.
Suggesting that companies were often all too eager to slash their marketing budgets in the current climate, he explained: “I agree businesses need to examine their marketing mix and understand precisely what works and dispense with what doesn’t. That said, it’s crazy to prune back everything wholesale. Historically those who maintain their visibility through a recession come out much stronger on the other side and often increase market share.”
Lee was invited to take part in the event, “Hit the ground running – prepare for the upturn in 2010,” by sponsors Paris Smith, the law firm, and accountants HJS Solutions. It was held at the city’s prestigious Mercedes-Benz dealership near Southampton International Airport.
Other speakers were Peter Taylor, the Head of Dispute Resolution at Paris Smith and Gordon Johnston the managing director of HJS. The key note speaker was Sharon Clish of Grahame Robb Associates, who emphasised the importance of people in business talking effectively with each other or holding “crucial conversations.” There was no substitute for communication between two people, she said.
