Injured Lee Peck takes the wheel for charity
A knee injury might have ruled out Lee Peck from cycling across France in the 2008 Velo Vosges Charity Challenge but he did the next best thing and drove the support van for his four man team.
“I was really disappointed,” said Lee, a veteran of two previous 500 mile epics. “But I was thrilled that the organisers let me become a fifth member. It’s gruelling for the riders but there’s no doubt it’s a really worthwhile adventure and brilliant fun!” Alongside Lee were Steve Wilks, Alistair Currie, Steve Dalton and Lance Else. A special thank you goes to LPG client Hendy Group which provided the Ford Transit.
In total almost 300 cyclists, riding in relay, raised more than £150,000 for a number of charities – Wessex Heartbeat and Cancer Research UK being the main beneficiaries. The Challenge took the 69 teams from Arras near Calais to Riqueweir close to the Franco-German border, going through much of the front line in the First World War en route.
