LPG’s Alyson puts the Zoom Zoom into triathlon
PR director Alyson Marlow joined forces with professional triathletes recently as part of her final preparations to join Mazda’s Zoom Zoom relay team in this weekend’s triathlon at Blenheim.
Steve Lumley, a coach with the British Triathlon Federation and professional triathlete Anne Fallows, were on hand with motivation and tips to help Alyson train for the final part of the triathlon – a 5.4km run.
“Although I’m only doing the run and not the whole event it is proving a real challenge,’’ said Alyson who says she is certainly not a natural runner.
“I was really pleased to be asked to join the team and although the training is tough the experts have really given me the motivation to succeed.”
Alyson, who usually runs on a treadmill has now switched to outdoor training to ensure that she can pace herself for the run. “On the treadmill it’s easy to monitor your speed but I need to be able to do that automatically myself,’’ she said.
“In the training with Steve and Anne we did some pace trials and everyone was starting too quickly and would be running out of energy before the end of the race so running outside means I can learn how to adjust my speed – and hopefully help me reach the finish a little easier.’’
Alyson and team members Steve Jelliss from Mazda and Gaenor Keating get their challenge underway at Blenheim on Saturday June 7.
